How it works

You do the work. I help. You produce drafts of what you want to write and I read them, suggest different ways of putting what you want to say. You are the expert and I am here to help you but not to write your paper etc.

Writing up your ideas is usually a challenge. You may have spent months, even years, researching a topic, thinking about it, talking about it but the next task is to write it up in understandable, no-frills, standard, formal, academic English. When it is published your readers will not have to scratch their heads as they puzzle over your prose. They will thank you for writing clear, standard English.

I prefer a paper copy of your draft so that when we meet we can sit together and work over your words. I know the current fashion for electronic versions and comments. What I am offering is a one-to-one tutorial and for this I find it works best if we have a paper copy.

The bottom line: I charge £35 per hour for my time and skill. If you send me a draft I will spend time working on the text and I will charge you for my time. Then we meet and I charge you for my time.

I do not wish to be paid in cash but by BACS or a cheque in advance please.

I should say at the outset that I am not offering this service to make you feel happy but to help you write decent English to enable you get your qualification. It can be very hard to have one's work criticised. All I would say is that if I appear critical it is of your work not YOU.

If you want to have a preliminary conversation please ring me on 07912 359 559. I work in LE2.
